Web Site Privacy Statement

The Manitoba Museum respects the privacy of its Web site visitors and will protect that privacy as much as possible.

The Manitoba Museum does not collect information that personally identifies individuals except when individuals provide such specific information on a voluntary basis.

The Manitoba Museum will collect only information that is voluntarily provided by the user and undertakes that such information will be kept strictly confidential. Individual information provided to The Manitoba Museum to gain access to any feature of our site will not be sold or made available to a third party.

The Manitoba Museum does reserve the right, however, to perform statistical analyses of user behaviour and characteristics, in order to measure interest in and use of various sections of our site, so as to improve design and navigation and to gather marketing information. Only data aggregated from these analyses, not individual data, will be used for this purpose.

As well, users should be aware that certain non-personal information and data might be automatically collected by The Manitoba Museum through the operation of what are called ‘cookies.’ Cookies are small text files that identify an individual computer’s browser entering a Web site. They allow the site to track that browser’s movement through the site over several sessions. Through cookies, a Web site can recognize repeat users, facilitate the user’s access to and use of the site and allow a site to track usage behaviour that will allow content improvements. The Manitoba Museum uses cookies only for the above-mentioned purposes and will not use them to identify users or to track non-Museum usage.

The Manitoba Museum Privacy Statement

The Mission of The Manitoba Museum is: To preserve the heritage of Manitoba for present and future generations; to acquire and share knowledge of Manitoba’s history, culture and natural world with Manitobans and others; and to encourage discovery, appreciation and understanding of Manitoba, the world and the universe. The Manitoba Museum makes a significant contribution to the viability of our community and to the quality of life in our city, province and country. The Museum’s relationship with this community is strong and meaningful. The facility is a widely used community resource that promotes awareness of Manitoba’s history, cultural diversity and the incredible potential of science and technology. Community involvement, response and partnership are considered essential ingredients in the development of public and school programs, activities and events, exhibitions, research and collection projects and planetarium show productions.

The Manitoba Museum only collects personal information from you for the following reasons: to keep you informed about and enhance our products and services; to process memberships, admissions, donations, program registrations, rentals and purchases; to include donor information with our collections (artifacts and specimens) and catalogue records; to administer employee records to fulfill legal requirements and provide employee benefits and services; and, in the case of volunteers, to send invitations to training sessions, recognition events and for scheduling purposes.

In order to provide the above noted services, The Manitoba Museum must collect certain personal information. The Manitoba Museum understands the importance of keeping your personal information confidential. The Manitoba Museum is committed to protecting the confidentiality of the personal information that you provide and is dedicated to upholding certain confidentiality obligations at law, pursuant to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, and as set out in this Privacy Code.
To comply with its obligations at law, The Manitoba Museum has undertaken to ensure that its employees, agents and authorized persons take all reasonable steps to protect the confidentiality of personal information. The Manitoba Museum’s obligations include the protection of personal information from risks such as inappropriate collection, use, disclosure, storage or destruction. The Manitoba Museum has appointed a Privacy Officer who is accountable for The Manitoba Museum’s compliance with its obligations at law. The Privacy Officer may appoint other individuals to take responsibility for the day-to-day collection and processing of personal information.

If there are any matters that have not been expressly addressed in this Code, or if anyone requires clarification as to how to implement or interpret this Code, or if an individual would like to request access to his or her personal information or to amend such information, such questions or concerns should be brought to the attention of the Privacy Officer.
